Pricing varies greatly depending on how many locks are locked, and the types of locks, but simplified, the cheapest house lockout service is for doorknobs only and pricing starts at $75. Next tier of pricing is if the deadbolt is locked, and next is if both deadbolt and doorknob are locked. The price goes up if the locks are smart key so they can’t be picked, and goes up more if there are two doors to unlock. Example is a screen door or storm door that is also locked. In those cases, we always inform you and let you know how much the service will cost and offer lock change options and pricing upfront. Some examples of locks that can’t be picked are locks that too rusty inside, the internal pins were worn down and the lock was not working well to begin with, smart key lock cylinders because they have wafers not pins, keypads, and more.
You may be wondering if you can just unlock the house yourself and save a bunch of money. If the doorknob is the only lock that’s locked, you just might be in luck. You can try pushing the latch in with a butter knife or credit card, just be careful not to damage the door frame. If the deadbolt is locked too, you can try picking the locks, but it is not recommended to try drilling the lock yourself because over drilling happens a lot if you’re inexperienced, and it can cause the metal to melt a bit, which will make it extremely difficult to open. If the lock has melted a bit, any locksmith who comes to open it after you’ve made it much harder to open the door will charge a lot more than they would have charged for a standard house unlock service. Additionally, if it’s a storm door, or any door with glass, it’s a terrible idea to drill. If you’re only trying to unlock an interior door such as a bathroom, bedroom, or closet, the lock most likely has a little hole in the middle, and you can put a tiny screwdriver in there and push to latch to open it.
